"Talking Flowers"
by
Mike Watts
at
The Teikyo School, Framewood
Road, Wexham, Nr Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire
on
Wednesday, 9th May
2007
Commencing at 8.00pm
Mike Watts' talk explains the work of Plantlife, the charity for
conserving Britain's wild flowers; what it is (the wild plant equivalent of the
RSPB), why it is necessary and what it does. Our countryside is in crisis and
wild plants are disappearing at an alarming rate, almost one species per
county every year. Virtually all wild flower meadows have been destroyed;
Plantlife is buying up some of the few that remain and keeps them as
nature reserves. It is working to protect our landscape for the future and to
save threatened species. All life depends on plants.
Mike Watts has, in
his portfolio of talks, at least seven on The National Trust, one on
Plantlife, one on Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust, one on the
Chelsea Physic Garden and a special subject entitled "Plant Medicines
from your Doctor". Previous talks to our Society have been "Buckinghamshire
Properties of the National Trust" and "London's Secret Garden" (Chelsea Physic
Garden).
