Part II: Further questions and/or slide show for examples of orchids and/or plant surgery.

It is general practice in the Chiltern Orchid Society to run plant surgeries and to discuss exhibits which members bring to the meetings. Lydia will be following this procedure if our members wish to bring orchids which they are growing and would like the comments of an expert on the growing of them. It is members' opportunity to discuss any problems they are encountering in the growing of orchids. Please bring the whole plant with you; it is not possible to consider part specimens.

Phalaenopsis is a most popular house plant which is generally on sale in supermarkets, garden centres and elsewhere where, unfortunately, they are not always well treated during the sale period. The purchaser then encounters difficulties which are not of their making in the first place. It is regarded as an easy plant to grow but ease of cultivation depends on understanding the needs of these plants. They are recommended as houseplants rather than greenhouse ones. This talk and demonstration is aimed at avoiding disappointment especially if you are a beginner in orchid cultivation. The plant surgery will not be limited to Phalaenopsis and other genera will be welcome.
