We were founded in 1884 as the Stoke Poges Horticultural & Poultry Society and our annual show has stood the test of time as a marquee show. In 2008 we face new challenges as a result of vast social changes and increasing costs. For over forty years our show was held either at Wexham Springs or what is now the Teikyo School but 2007 saw the last of that show series. Now we have to re-establish ourselves in a new location in the grounds of Stoke Poges School. Just as our show venue has changed so has the nature of the exhibition within the marquee and this year we are introducing displays from nurserymen and garden centres. This, in a way, is a return to past times when there were mass displays from the large houses which predominated in the area and which were set up by the head gardeners. The whole of the show schedule reflected those times and the Society enjoyed a high reputation throughout a large area of Buckinghamshire and East Berkshire. We are determined to make the transitions to a new show site a resounding success but much, of course, depends on our exhibitors and the support of our visitors. Apart from innovation at the Annual Show we are establishing informal evening horticultural shows in the Spring and Autumn and we have a well established annual lecture programme which is advertised on the web-site.

We look forward to seeing on show day everyone who believes, as do we, that our Society still represents an important aspect of the English social scene. If you have any comments about this year's show and how we can improve it for future years, we shall be glad to hear from you. In particular we would welcome you as a member for the support which that would give us in our work.
